Obamacare Not Getting the Independent Vote

In passing "Obama-care," Democrats relied on an old political principle--giving people something for nothing is unpopular at first, but gains popularity as people become dependent on the system. Ultimately this leads to more power for politicians. Because socialized medicine is now popular with the Democratic base, they thought they could depend on this principle during this year's election. However, it has not sunk in yet.

Since Democrats gave up on holistic socialized medicine, and began a policy of incrementalism, the question was always going to be this--when would they cross the line? They have been slowly creeping toward that line for a long time, President Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi may have finally taken them across it.
